Capo Vaticano at a glance

Capo Vaticano lies in the area of San Nicolò, in the municipality of Ricadi, on the Tyrrhenian coast. It is one end of the Costa degli Dei, the stretch that reaches from the cape to Tropea. The coast here is a mix of bays, beaches and rock, with a lighthouse on the headland.

You can see the cape in two ways. By land you reach the beaches and the viewpoint. By boat you see the coastline from the water, including bays that are hard to reach otherwise. Many visitors combine both over a few days.

The viewpoint near the lighthouse

A panoramic path runs along the cape at about 100 m above sea level. It leads to a natural terrace beside the lighthouse. From the terrace you look down on Grotticelle and Santa Maria. It is the easiest way to understand how the bays sit along the coast.

The terrace gives you the view. It does not mean you can enter the lighthouse building. Bring a hat and water, and check the weather on the day, since a clear view is the point of the climb.

The boat trip from Tropea

Details from one operator in Tropea harbor, as listed for 2026.

Time and length

The trip takes about 3 hours. Departures are at 9:30 and 14:30. Check-in is 30 minutes before the boat leaves.

Price in 2026

Adults pay €40, children aged 3 to 12 pay €35 and children up to 2 travel free. From 10 to 17 August higher prices apply: €45 or €55 for adults and €40 or €50 for children, depending on availability. Confirm the total when you book.

What is included

An aperitif and snorkeling equipment are included. Bring a swimsuit and a towel.

The route can change

The stop at Formicoli can be replaced by a stop at Riaci because of weather or traffic on the water. The itinerary lists Praia i Focu, but sea conditions decide how much swimming time you get. No operator can promise a landing or a swim stop in rough water.

Cancellation and access

Canceling up to 48 hours before departure is free. The boat is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Boat or land?

A boat trip gives you the coastline in one go and brings you to bays that are hard to reach from land. A day on land gives you more time on one beach and the view from the terrace. Many visitors do the boat trip on one morning and the viewpoint on another day. If you have more than one day, keep the plan flexible, because weather and sea conditions can change the boat route.

Parking and getting there

Ricadi announced paid blue-zone parking for 15 May to 15 October 2026. The announcement does not tell you what applies after that date, so read the signs at each parking area. Plan how you will get to the cape before you set out.

Tropea is the nearest base for most visitors. The Tropea page covers the beach, the old town and the sanctuary. If you arrive by air, the Lamezia Terme airport page explains how bus and train connect to the coast.
